Clifty Falls State Park

Clifty Falls is one of the most beautiful sites in Indiana, the falls sit atop the Clifty Canyon gorge that runs south into the Ohio River. Big Clifty is sixty feet and there are three other falls that top sixty feet as well. There are many other cascades and rivulets that grace the park making it an amazing place to visit after a hard rain.

The spring brings out an incredible display of wildflowers followed by fall colors that paint the canyon walls and hillsides with such a broad brush of color that many people leave the park with a sense amazement.

Try visiting Clifty Falls one weekend it’s a wonderful place for hiking and has a great campground. Madison Indiana is just a couple miles away and is a wonderful place to stay and visit as well.

Madison Indiana Spring !!

Here is a beautiful variety of the wonderful scenes Madison Indiana has to offer in the early spring. The Broadway Fountain, Lanier Mansion and the River walk all offer a spectacular place to enjoy what nature has to offer us in early April.

If you are looking for a place for a weekend or longer trip, try Madison it is truly an amazing destination to visit !!

Return to Winter

I have been capturing images of wildflowers for nearly a month now and had all but given up on posting any winter images for this past winter season. But low and behold here we are on April 20 and we are expecting a dusting of light snow overnight and freezing temperatures. Spring in Indiana lol !!

So now I have the opportunity share some images from this past February when we were having a pretty tough stretch of winter. I captured these as we were getting a heavy snow one evening here in Madison Indiana. A fresh snow at night is so beautiful and it makes everything it covers so magical and serene !!

Tonight’s snow should be nothing like that and I can get back to the business of photographing wildflowers here in Southern Indiana fairly quickly

Calm before the Storm

Sitting here tonight waiting for the big one, the big one being a winter storm. According to the weather folk on social media this is going to be our biggest storm in quite a few years, since we really haven’t had a major accumulation in the past five years it shouldn’t be difficult to top it.

Our last really big snow was in 2004 I believe and topped out around twenty inches. I don’t think we beat that but you never know and if we do it should make for some crazy photography.

All these images I have posted here came from last week and that was just six inches so twelve plus will really make these more impressive. But with the weather you never know what it is going to happen so we will just have to see how it pans out.

Dark Sunrise

I captured this along the Ohio River this past fall. Usually sunrise images contain quite a bit of color but this one seemed to scream for a black and white conversion and I was happy to oblige.

The Ohio River has always seemed to present me with many wonderful compositions over the years and this one didn’t disappoint. The hours I have spent walking the riverfront looking for just that right image has always been a favorite past time of mine and hopefully it will be something I can continue for a long time.

There are so many moods that the river displays and no two sunrises are the same, if you happen to be in Madison Indiana you certainly couldn’t do better than taking a sunrise walk along the river and enjoy one the rivers beautiful moods !!
