Virginia Bluebells | Clifty Falls State Park Madison Indiana

Sorry for the absence on posting wildflowers this spring but I am right in the middle of a stretch of weddings that is keeping me busy.  So this morning I have a minute and thought I might share some images of one of my favorite wildflowers from here in Southern Indiana and that is the Virginia Bluebell.

The Virginia Bluebell is a erect plant with smooth gray-green foliage and nodding clusters of pink buds that open into light blue trumpet-shaped flowers. The 1-2 ft. branched and arching stems of Virginia bluebells bear large drooping, terminal clusters of lavender-blue, bell-shaped flowers. Large, gray-green, oval leaves line the stems of this perennial.

When it grows in masses, this species makes a spectacular show, especially in the Midwest.  I tend to find them growing along stream banks and steep hillsides here in Southern Indiana.

I have found colonies of this plant that covered entire hillsides in some of the gorges that line the Ohio River near Madison Indiana, I especially enjoy photographing one colony that grows at Clifty Falls State Park.

Virginia Bluebells are one of the most amazing wildflowers to view and photograph and I could never imagine a wildflower season without taking the time to stop and enjoy this wonderful little wildflower. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look and I hope you enjoy the pics I have included with this post !!

BackYard Flowers…Daisy

Here is a look at another variety of flowers that I grew in my backyard this year with the intention of using for photography, and this time it’s the Daisy, a very common yet beautiful perennial that is easy to grow and just as easy to photograph.

I am definitely not the best of gardeners and have killed my share of blooming plants in my garden, but this is one that not even I can destroy, I think these little beauties will be here long after the apocalypses along with the cockroaches !!

These lovely perennials have a structure very close to that of the coneflower but of a different color, and because of that color difference I used coneflowers and bee-balm as a background color for the daisies. With the white petals of the daisy set against the vivid colors of the perennials I was able to come up with a very cool color contrast. I planted these just for that reason and for once things turned out like I planned, that usually doesn’t happen very often lol !!

So I hope you enjoy me images and click on the image for best viewing ,thanks for stopping by !!

Backyard Flowers…Coneflower

Here are some images from my backyard flowers series and today’s subject is Coneflowers. These beautiful flowers have always been one my favorites to photograph they have a great photographic quality to them that lends to many hours of photography.

I really like the structure of the flower , from the erect posture of the flower itself to the long flowing petals in the bloom as well as the seed head that forms later. There are so many different ways to photograph this plant and they seem to last longer than any of my other flowering plants in my garden.

And then there is that incredibly vivid color that every plant has, truly one of the coolest blooms on any of all the cultivated flowers.

So if your looking for something to plant in your garden for looks and photographic quality you can’t go wrong with the coneflower. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look and as always click on the images for best viewing !!

BackYard Flowers…Forget-Me-Knot

I spend hour after hour and travel many miles to bring you my photographs of the array of wonderful wildflowers that I capture, but now I think I will just sit back and share the easy ones, the ones from my yard.

I am not the worlds best gardener and I don’t have the time to treat them like I should but I do have a pretty good assortment of flowers that I am growing in my yard just for the days when I can just slide out the back yard and knock of a couple of images and slide right back into the comfort of my own home for a change !!

I try to stick to perennials like coneflower, black-eyed Susan and bee-balm. But this year I also went with a cool little annual I found at the nursery and I love the profusion of blooms these little jewels produce. Forget-Me-Knots seem to be an easy flower to care for and they produce vivid blue colors in their bloom that make for incredible images.

So if you are looking for a great flower for your garden and or as a photography subject  you might try this great little plant I think you will be glad you did. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look !!

Clifty Falls Wildflowers

Downloaded some slideshow software for my portrait photography business and couldn’t resist putting together a show of images of wildflowers that I photographed at Clifty Falls State Park in Madison Indiana.

Finally the weather is changing and I won’t have to rely on  past years photographs of wildflowers  to keep my sanity I should be getting out by the first of the week and things should really be popping by then !!

Hope you enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed capturing all of these beautiful specimens of wildflowers, if you are ever in Southern Indiana you definitely have to make a stop at Clifty Falls especially in early spring it is one the most beautiful Sate Parks in the Midwest and a must stop on your vacation list !!
