Clifty Falls Wildflowers

Downloaded some slideshow software for my portrait photography business and couldn’t resist putting together a show of images of wildflowers that I photographed at Clifty Falls State Park in Madison Indiana.

Finally the weather is changing and I won’t have to rely on  past years photographs of wildflowers  to keep my sanity I should be getting out by the first of the week and things should really be popping by then !!

Hope you enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed capturing all of these beautiful specimens of wildflowers, if you are ever in Southern Indiana you definitely have to make a stop at Clifty Falls especially in early spring it is one the most beautiful Sate Parks in the Midwest and a must stop on your vacation list !!

Madison Indiana Wildflowers

Okay, we still don’t have spring yet, but the weatherman says it’s on it’s way.  We’ll see, I have heard this before and I am still not seeing much spring activity outside, except for my allergies…figures lol !!

Here in Madison Indiana and down in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park we are looking to be about three weeks behind the bloom so like it or not I need to be patient and just wait it out. I just hope the cold hasn’t affected the bloom much and I will be able to photograph some great wildflower displays !!

The pic I am displaying here is a Large Flowering Trillium that I shot at Clifty Falls State Park in Southern Indiana few years ago. At least I am able to keep my sanity by going back and processing and sharing old images,  hopefully it won’t be much longer before I can share some fresh images for you.

Loved this burst of color in this cone flower that I shot in my home in Madison Indiana.

The Skipper brave and sure

Ok  I am sorry it was a poor attempt at humor, were not talking Gilligan’s Island, were talking Moths as in Skippers !!

Most of my macro work has been done with wildflowers and other domestic flowers but last summer I began experimenting with photographing butterflies and moths. It was a poor attempt mind you but at least I think I am heading in the right direction.

Shooting flowers is a piece of cake compared to shooting bugs and other little things that don’t comprehend what the phrase sitting still means, I know sometimes wind can be a factor for wildflowers, but things that fly off at the slightest movement can really test your photographic and mental patience.

As an example the Little Skipper I posted here only to took nearly 100 images and about a full hour to get right, I followed him way longer than he deserved, and that hour could have been spent doing something a little more concrete with my life….cutting grass or reading a book maybe.

But as you can see I think it worked out alright, except for the soar knees, ticks and frazzled nerves. It was probably a good thing I shot this little critter where no one could see me or I think I would have looked rather foolish chasing and cussing at this little guy. But after all the complaints I actually think I enjoyed myself with this new aspect of my photography….now if I can just get that tune out my head lol !!!

“Calla Lily”

Been quite sometime since I posted a image of a Calla Lily, I actually shot this image a few years ago but never took the time to edit it or even open it up for that matter, so for old times sake here it is. Calla’s are probably my favorite of all cultivated flowers to photograph, they have such an elegant feel to them and look beautiful in either color or black and white.

They are easy to work with as well, just buy a few cut specimens and you can shoot them for  a couple of days in all kinds of different arrangements. they look great pulled back capturing the entire subject or close up with a macro lens capturing the most delicate details of the bloom.

These are just one of the great subjects you can’t go wrong working with and you can shoot them anytime of the year as most florists have them in an abundant supply. So if your looking for something different to photograph that can also serve different elements of photography , go and buy few of these delightful flowers and shoot them anyway you can..you will be glad you did !!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look and remember to click on the image for best viewing !!
