Fall Cascade

I made a recent two day trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, probably spent more time driving than actually capturing images, but anytime in the park is special. Fall was little shaky there this year patches of really beautiful color but just as many places that it was still dull and a bit dried out.

With conditions being what they were I decided to spend most of my time working in a couple areas. Tremont and the middle prong trail for cascades and then Oconaluftee for a chance at Elk.

The image above was just one of the many beautiful cascades that line the middle prong and rarely ever disappoint. I captured this one pretty early into my hike and followed up with a nice collection of smaller waterfalls.

At about the 2.5 mile point in the hike you come across Indian Flats Falls which is an amazing spot to stop and take in all the beauty of the Smokies. I will share more of that spot and the many other images I captured a little later but for now I thought I might share this wonderful spot just for starters.

If you ever make your way down to the Great Smoky Mountains, Tremont is a must place to visit and while you are there you have to make this great five mile round trip hike to view all the amazing water features along the way.

Madison Indiana Spring !!

Here is a beautiful variety of the wonderful scenes Madison Indiana has to offer in the early spring. The Broadway Fountain, Lanier Mansion and the River walk all offer a spectacular place to enjoy what nature has to offer us in early April.

If you are looking for a place for a weekend or longer trip, try Madison it is truly an amazing destination to visit !!

Dark Sunrise

I captured this along the Ohio River this past fall. Usually sunrise images contain quite a bit of color but this one seemed to scream for a black and white conversion and I was happy to oblige.

The Ohio River has always seemed to present me with many wonderful compositions over the years and this one didn’t disappoint. The hours I have spent walking the riverfront looking for just that right image has always been a favorite past time of mine and hopefully it will be something I can continue for a long time.

There are so many moods that the river displays and no two sunrises are the same, if you happen to be in Madison Indiana you certainly couldn’t do better than taking a sunrise walk along the river and enjoy one the rivers beautiful moods !!

Fall at the Lanier Mansion

Can you imagine having to do this yard work, just kidding but here is another popular place to visit in Madison Indiana. The Lanier Mansion Historical site.

The Lanier Mansion is one of the best examples of Greek Revival architecture in the country and is considered to be the Jewel of Madison’s Historic District. It is a wonderful place to explore early life in the 1800’s when the river and railroads were the major players and Madison was one of most important cities in Indiana.

On this beautiful fall day I was able to explore the grounds and photograph this wonderful place shooting at different angles and positions. The warm light and leafs added a lovely touch to the landscape and made for a enjoyable afternoon of photography.

When visiting Madison Indiana make sure you plan a stop here, you’ll be glad you did !!

Little Clifty Falls

Spent a cold morning hiking to Little Clifty Falls in the Clifty Falls Sate Park near Madison Indiana. Most of the leafs have fallen and we finally received some substantial rainfall the night before so there was good flow in the water.

This has not been one of the better fall seasons for color or water flow for the many waterfalls that we have here in Jefferson County. But there was still enough fall scenes to salvage this season and find I did still find some very beautiful scenes to capture.

Little Clifty falls resides in Clifty Falls Park, the park boasts many smaller falls and cascades along Clifty creek. There are five big falls located in the park with Little Clifty being the smallest of the five.

I was hoping to catch high water flow surrounded by colorful fall leafs but the dry fall put a halt to that. But the park is still beautiful and any day walking the canyons and trails here makes it worth the visit.

Hope you enjoy the pics and if you are looking for a great place to visit in Southern Indiana try spending a day in Clifty Falls State Park.
